Today I’m gonna write straight from my chest. Nothing about teaching or pedagogy, or anything like that.
Well, that is not entirely true either. Because everything somehow is related to teaching and learning.
This entry here is about personal growth. My own personal growth.
I have now been writing on my main blog at abenesch.info and here on Medium for like 2 months or so. I started, because somehow I felt that I had some good things to share, and people around me often asked me to share my insights on matters, especially matters related to education.
I was just always afraid to do it, but a big shift in my life this year finally compelled me to do the jump and start.
I am gonna spare you the details, but long story short, I went through therapy, quit my job and I am on my way to start a new life halfway around the globe.
My writing is not as good as I thought
The point is that I looked at my blog and some of the articles today, and it dawned on me. Some of the articles, which I wrote earlier and thought were excellently crafted, suck. No, not because of the ideas and thoughts conveyed in these posts. But the actual writing sucks. I thought I had nailed it with these posts. But I had to come to the humble realization, that I didn’t.
I will not blame you if you gave up reading them.
Look at this one, for example. There is an important message, but it drowns in convoluted sentences and complicated expressions. Or maybe you shouldn’t, for your own sake, and just believe me.
So it is like an epiphany. Writing is just like any process. I need to learn. A lot. It is hard work. But over time, I will improve. I can already see improvements in my writings. And I will become a better educator for it as well.
I think the best would be to give these posts a massive overhaul. Which will take a lot of time and effort. But it will need to be done.
And so, we are full circle to the topic of education. Because that understanding is what education is about.
Embracing the process and growing with it. It is a skill I still have to learn. And I should make it my mission to teach my students this skill as well. I am not giving up on that quest just yet.
